Successful Harrison Police Department National Night Out 2025
Aug 25, 2025The Harrison Police Department hosted its annual National Night Out at Library Park this week, drawing a large and enthusiastic crowd of residents, community organizations, and local businesses. The event was a resounding success, offering neighbors a chance to connect with law enforcement in a welcoming and festive atmosphere.
The Purpose of National Night Out
National Night Out, first launched in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch, is a nationwide campaign aimed at fostering partnerships between police departments and the communities they serve. Held on the first Tuesday in August across the United States, the event encourages residents to strengthen ties with law enforcement, improve neighborhood safety, and promote trust through shared activities.
In Harrison, the event has become a cherished tradition, reinforcing the Police Department’s ongoing commitment to community policing.
A Night of Family Fun
This year’s National Night Out offered a wide array of activities for families. Guests enjoyed snacks, face painting, games, and other fun activities for children, while parents had the opportunity to connect with officers and local organizations. Local merchants came out in support, showcasing the spirit of community partnership.
As the sun set, families settled in for the popular tradition of a Movie in the Park, bringing the day’s festivities to a close under the summer night sky.

Beyond National Night Out: Ongoing Community Engagement
While National Night Out is one of the department’s marquee events, it is far from the only effort by the Harrison Police Department’s Community Policing Unit to engage residents.
Over the summer, the department has hosted six Pizza With A Cop events across different neighborhoods, making it easier for residents to join in no matter where they live. These gatherings allow families to meet officers in a relaxed environment and foster trust through casual conversation.
The next Pizza With A Cop is scheduled for Wednesday, August 28, 2025, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Pocket Park on South 5th Street in the Riverbend District of Harrison.
In addition to these initiatives, Harrison Police officers have a long history of supporting community events, including participation in citizenship drives, youth programs, and other neighborhood-based activities.
A Shared Commitment to Community
The success of this year’s National Night Out underscores the importance of partnerships between law enforcement, residents, and local organizations. The Harrison Police Department remains committed to making its officers accessible and engaged with the community they serve.
