The New York Red Bulls will take the pitch against Atlanta United FC on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. in a highly anticipated Major League Soccer (MLS) clash at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey. The match is not only significant for the standings—it also marks the club’s annual Kickoff to Pride Night celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community through inclusivity, recognition, and visibility.
A Matchup with History
This game marks the 20th all-time meeting between the Red Bulls and Atlanta United. New York holds a commanding series lead with a 10-3-6 record overall and an undefeated 5-0-3 mark at home. The Red Bulls have turned their home turf into a fortress this season, earning 19 points at Sports Illustrated Stadium, ranking second in MLS, just behind Nashville SC.
The Red Bulls' attack has been red-hot in recent weeks. They’ve scored 11 goals in their last two MLS home matches, led by Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who has netted nine goals this season, tying him for third-most in the league. The Cameroonian striker has become a fan favorite in Harrison and is expected to be a key player once again this Saturday.
About the Clubs
Atlanta United FC was founded in 2014 and officially began MLS play in 2017. The club quickly gained a reputation for its high-energy play and large, passionate fanbase. Atlanta United plays its home games at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, located in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. The stadium, which also hosts the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons, boasts a seating capacity of over 71,000 for soccer events, making it one of the largest in the league.
On the other side, New York Red Bulls is one of MLS’s original franchises, established in 1996. The team has been based in Harrison, NJ, since 2010, playing at what is now called Sports Illustrated Stadium, a modern soccer-specific venue with a capacity of 25,000. Over the years, the Red Bulls have built a strong home-field identity, and their loyal supporters, especially the South Ward, continue to create one of the most energetic atmospheres in American soccer.
Pride Night
This year’s Kickoff to Pride Night reflects the Red Bulls’ ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion. Fans attending the match can expect rainbow-themed giveaways, pre-match tributes, and Pride-themed fan activations throughout the stadium. The Red Bulls organization has partnered with local LGBTQIA+ advocacy groups and community leaders to host awareness events that reinforce the club’s “Soccer for All” initiative.
Special recognition will be given to local LGBTQIA+ heroes during halftime, and the team will wear limited-edition Pride-themed warm-up kits, which will later be auctioned to support LGBTQIA+ youth programs. The night will serve as a powerful reminder that the sport—and its community—thrives when it welcomes everyone.
