Losing an Hour in Harrison:Daylight Savings Time Returns Sun. 3/9/2025
Mar 05, 2025
On Sunday, March 9, 2025, Harrison residents will once again experience the annual tradition of Daylight Savings Time (DST), but this year, it’s going to feel a little different. At 2 a.m. on Sunday morning, the clocks will spring forward an hour—magically turning 2 a.m. into 3 a.m. While this is the official shift to longer days and more daylight in the evenings, it also means that if you're out enjoying a late-night at a local club or restaurant with a 3 a.m. closing hour, you’ll lose that extra hour you were hoping for. With the push of a button, 2 a.m. will vanish, and the night will be over an hour sooner.
The change, however, is not without its critics. For years, there has been a growing movement to eliminate Daylight Savings Time altogether. Proponents of this change argue that the biannual ritual of shifting the clock one hour forward in the spring and back in the fall does more harm than good. Studies show that the disruption caused by the clock changes can harm people’s sleep patterns, mental health, and overall well-being. Experts point out that this constant "switching" takes a toll on the human psyche, causing confusion and increasing the risk of stress-related health issues. The movement to abolish DST suggests that sticking to a consistent time year-round would benefit society, promoting better sleep, reducing accidents, and aligning more closely with our natural rhythms.
Locally, the debate is alive and well. Your Harrison.com Community Board is hosting a poll to see how residents feel about the clock change. Do you stand For or Against Daylight Savings Time? Now’s your chance to have your voice heard and let the town know whether the annual ritual of losing an hour of sleep is worth it or whether it's time to retire the clock change once and for all.
Putting all that has been said above, remember to set your clock ahead on Sunday, 3/9/2025 unless your clock automatically moves ahead because who has a manual clock these days?
