Harrison Municipal Meetings Scheduled for Late August 2026

Harrison residents interested in following decisions affecting their community will have several opportunities during the remainder of August to attend municipal meetings at Harrison Town Hall.

According to the official Town of Harrison website and its meeting calendar, the upcoming schedule includes a Mayor and Council meeting and a Harrison Redevelopment Agency meeting. The Town's Legal Notices page also lists notices involving the Planning Board in late August.

Mayor and Council Meeting Tuesday, August 18

The next regular meeting of the Harrison Mayor and Council is scheduled for Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at 6:15 p.m.

The meeting is scheduled to take place in the Mayor’s Conference Room on the third floor of Harrison Town Hall, 318 Harrison Avenue, Harrison, New Jersey. The Town calendar lists the meeting from 6:15 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

The notice states that "any and all public business" may be formally discussed, decided, and acted upon at the meetings.

The Town also provides a public-comment portion of its Mayor and Council meetings. According to the published meeting notice, speakers must state their name and municipality of residence for the record, and public comments are generally limited to five minutes, although the chairperson, Mayor James Fife, may extend that time.

Planning Board Notice Thursday, August 20

Residents following development and land-use matters should also be aware that the Town's Legal Notices page currently lists a Subdivision & Site Plan Review Committee Meeting Notice – August 20, 2026 with a 4:30 p.m. start under the Planning Board Notices section with an application for 105 Harrison Avenue, Harrison, NJ indicating that formal action may be taken.

Because this meeting appears on the Town's Legal Notices page rather than the main public calendar information retrieved for this article, residents interested in attending should check the Planning Board notice and Town website for the specific meeting time, location, agenda, and any changes before attending.

Harrison Redevelopment Agency Monday, August 24

The Harrison Redevelopment Agency is scheduled to meet on Monday, August 24, 2026, from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m.

The meeting is listed as taking place in the third-floor Mayor’s Conference Room of Harrison Town Hall, 318 Harrison Avenue.

The Redevelopment Agency is particularly important to residents interested in redevelopment projects and development activity within Harrison. With substantial redevelopment transforming areas of the town over the past several decades, Agency meetings give residents an opportunity to follow matters that can affect redevelopment areas and projects.

The August 24 meeting follows the cancellation of a Redevelopment Agency meeting scheduled for Monday, August 10 at 1 p.m.

Special Planning Board Meeting Monday, August 31

The Town's Legal Notices page also currently lists a Special Meeting Notice – August 31, 2026 under its Planning Board Notices.

The Town's regular Planning Board meetings are ordinarily scheduled for 6 p.m. at Harrison Town Hall, with a caucus at 5:45 p.m.  The Application that is before the Planning Board is for 105 Harrison Avenue Associates Inc. for the property located at 105 Harrison Avenue, Harrison, NJ.

Public Can Follow Town Business Online

Residents do not have to wait until the day of a meeting to begin reviewing municipal business. The Town states that Mayor & Council agendas are made available before meetings through the Agenda Center on its municipal website or may be requested from the Town Clerk. In reality, the Mayor & Council Agendas are not released to the public until later in the afternoon of the meeting.  In addition, the agenda states at the top of the first page that it can be changed at any time, including during the Mayor & Council meeting.

There have been several occasions when additions to the published agenda have been made. So much for transparency.  You can put an Agenda item on at any time, bypassing public notice.  It happened with the Ordinance appointing a Police Director.  The Harrison Police Department Unions had no idea there was a Police Director Ordinance on the Agenda because it was added after the agenda was published, without notice to the police unions.  Providing public notice would have avoided tension between the Police Unions and the Mayor & Council.  Eliminating the appearance of impropriety is important.

The Town has also established a Legal Notices section on its website. Beginning March 1, 2026, the Town states that the complete text of legal notices for Harrison and its authorities, boards, and subdivisions may be viewed through the Town's official Legal Notices webpage.

Residents planning to attend any meeting should check the Town website shortly before the meeting for agendas, cancellations, special notices, or changes in meeting time or location.
