Gotham FC v. Houston Dash

Professional women's soccer returns to Harrison on Sunday, May 31, 2026, when NJ/NY Gotham FC hosts the Houston Dash in a National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) match at Sports Illustrated Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. and marks Gotham FC's final league match before the NWSL's June international break.

For local residents, the atmosphere surrounding Sunday's game is expected to be significantly calmer than the large international soccer match held Saturday evening at Sports Illustrated Stadium between the Ecuador Men's National Team and the Saudi Arabia Men's National Team. International matches often attract thousands of traveling supporters from multiple states, creating heavier traffic and larger crowds. Gotham FC matches generally feature a more family-friendly atmosphere, with youth soccer organizations, local families, and supporters from throughout the New York-New Jersey region attending.

Special Events and Giveaways Planned

Gotham FC is celebrating Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month during Sunday's match. The club announced that the first 4,500 fans entering Sports Illustrated Stadium will receive a commemorative mini-poster giveaway.

The match has also been designated as "Scouts Day," with youth scouting organizations expected to participate in pregame activities. Gotham FC has promoted the contest as the club's final home match before the summer soccer season begins and many of the club's players depart for international competition.

Fans of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights will have an extra reason to arrive early for Sunday's Gotham FC match. Gotham FC has partnered with Rutgers University for a special Scarlet Knights-themed celebration throughout the afternoon. The club announced that special activations will take place around Sports Illustrated Stadium during the match, giving Rutgers students, alumni, and supporters an opportunity to showcase their school spirit. Adding to the festivities, Rutgers' beloved mascot, Sir Henry, is scheduled to make an appearance and interact with fans. The partnership highlights the strong connection between New Jersey's premier women's professional soccer club and one of the state's most recognizable universities, creating a unique game-day experience for both soccer fans and members of the Rutgers community.

Fans arriving early for Sunday's match will find plenty to do at Fan Fest and throughout the stadium grounds before kickoff. Gotham FC has planned a variety of family-friendly activities, including a Mini Pitch where young soccer players can test their skills, face painters, glitter tattoos, and a sign-making station where supporters can create personalized messages to cheer on their favorite players. Fans will also be able to browse the merchandise stand for Gotham FC apparel, souvenirs, and team gear. In addition, attendees can visit the booth operated by Grüns, Gotham FC's Official Foundational Nutrition Partner, where fans may learn more about the company's nutritional products and receive gummy samples while supplies last. Combined with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights celebration, Scouts Day activities, and the special mini-poster giveaway for the first 4,500 fans, Sunday's match promises to offer much more than just 90 minutes of soccer action.

Gotham FC Looking to Continue Strong Season

NJ/NY Gotham FC enters the weekend in fifth place in the NWSL standings with a 5-3-2 record and 18 points. The defending NWSL champions have positioned themselves among the league's playoff contenders through the first third of the season and have been particularly strong in recent weeks.

Gotham FC plays its home matches at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey. The stadium, formerly known as Red Bull Arena, seats approximately 25,000 spectators and serves as the home venue for both Gotham FC and the New York Red Bulls. The stadium was renamed Sports Illustrated Stadium following a long-term naming rights agreement announced in late 2024.

Founded in 2007 as Sky Blue FC and later rebranded as Gotham FC, the club has become one of the premier organizations in women's professional soccer. Gotham captured the NWSL Championship in 2023 and successfully defended its status as one of the league's elite clubs entering the 2026 season.

Houston Dash Seeking Climb Up the Standings

The Houston Dash arrive in Harrison holding 10th place in the NWSL standings with a 4-5-2 record and 14 points. Houston enters Sunday's contest off a 2-1 victory over Angel City FC and will look to continue its push toward playoff positions. Rookie forward Kat Rader has emerged as one of the Dash's offensive leaders this season.

The Dash play their home games at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas. The downtown Houston facility, which seats approximately 22,000 fans, is also home to Major League Soccer's Houston Dynamo. Since joining the NWSL in 2014, the Dash have developed a passionate fan base and remain one of the league's most recognizable clubs.

Traffic Expected Around Stadium

Although Sunday's crowd is not expected to match Saturday's international soccer audience in size, motorists should still anticipate increased traffic around Sports Illustrated Stadium before and after the match. Fans typically begin arriving several hours before kickoff, and increased vehicle and pedestrian activity can be expected in the area surrounding Cape May Street, South Frank E. Rodgers Boulevard, Guyon Drive, and the Harrison PATH Station.

Residents are encouraged to allow additional travel time if driving through Harrison on Sunday afternoon.

With both teams battling for valuable points in a competitive NWSL playoff race, Sunday's match should provide local soccer fans with an opportunity to watch some of the best women's professional soccer players in the world in a family-friendly setting right here in Harrison.
