Ecuador & Saudi Arabia Face Off at Sports Illustrated Stadium
May 30, 2026
International soccer will return to Harrison on Saturday, May 30, 2026, when the Ecuador Men’s National Team faces the Saudi Arabia Men’s National Team at Sports Illustrated Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The match is part of a series of international exhibitions being held in the United States in advance of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The game has been promoted as a final preparation match for two nations that have already qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. According to information released by the stadium operator and organizers, the match was arranged as part of Saudi Arabia’s final World Cup preparation camp in the United States. Saudi Arabia has been drawn into Group H of the World Cup and will use the camp to prepare for tournament play. Ecuador is also using the match as part of its World Cup preparations.
National Teams, Not Club Teams
Unlike the New York Red Bulls or NJ/NY Gotham FC, Ecuador and Saudi Arabia are not professional club teams competing in a domestic league. Instead, they are national teams representing their respective countries and are governed by their national soccer federations.
Ecuador is a member of CONMEBOL, the South American football confederation, while Saudi Arabia competes under the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). National teams do not participate in league play like Major League Soccer. Instead, they compete in World Cup qualifying competitions, continental championships, and international friendly matches scheduled by FIFA during designated international windows.
This match is classified as an international friendly, meaning the result will not affect league standings or tournament standings, although FIFA rankings may be impacted.
Why Harrison's Sports Illustrated Stadium?
Sports Illustrated Stadium has become one of the premier soccer venues in the United States and has a long history of hosting international matches.
The stadium has previously hosted numerous national-team contests, including Ecuador versus Bolivia in 2023, United States Women’s National Team matches, Gold Cup matches, and other international exhibitions. The facility’s proximity to New York City, accessibility by PATH train, and strong support from immigrant communities throughout New Jersey and New York make it an attractive location for international soccer promoters.
The Ecuador-Saudi Arabia match is being organized by Lions Sports & Media, a company that specializes in arranging international soccer exhibitions and training camps. According to the organizers, the game is intended to provide both teams with high-level competition before the start of the World Cup.
Other International Matches Scheduled
The Ecuador-Saudi Arabia contest is not the only international soccer match planned at Sports Illustrated Stadium this spring.
The stadium’s published event calendar shows additional international matches, including Bolivia versus Scotland on next Saturday, June 6, 2026 and Morocco versus Norway on Sunday, June 7, 2026. These games are also being marketed as World Cup preparation matches.
Previous U.S. Appearances
Both Ecuador and Saudi Arabia have periodically played matches in the United States due to the large expatriate communities that support their national teams.
Available records show Ecuador previously played Bolivia at the Harrison stadium in June 2023 before a crowd of approximately 20,000 spectators. Ecuador has also played other friendlies in the United States over the years, often in the Northeast and South Florida markets.
Saudi Arabia has been conducting a World Cup preparation camp in the United States leading up to this match and selected Harrison as one of its final tune-up venues before traveling to the World Cup.

Traffic Impacts Expected
Residents should anticipate significant traffic congestion before and after the match.
The Harrison Police Department has issued a traffic and parking bulletin warning motorists that road closures, detours, and increased pedestrian traffic will affect areas surrounding Sports Illustrated Stadium. The most heavily impacted areas are expected to include South Frank E. Rodgers Boulevard, Cape May Street, Guyon Drive, and surrounding roadways in the SOHA redevelopment district.
As with other sold-out soccer events, motorists should allow additional travel time and expect delays throughout the afternoon and evening.
Did Red Bull Promise Not to Host International Friendlies?
A question frequently raised by Harrison residents is whether Red Bull Arena (now Sports Illustrated Stadium) was originally promoted as a facility that would host primarily league and tournament matches rather than stand-alone international exhibitions.
While there are references in public discussions and local reporting over the years regarding concerns about international friendlies and their over enthusiast fans. After a July 4th weekend game, the Red Bull organization promised never to hold an International Game on or close to July 4th
The stadium has a documented history of hosting international friendlies dating back to its opening years. Records show national team friendlies, club exhibitions, and other non-league international matches have regularly been held at the venue since 2010.
For Harrison residents, the more immediate concern is likely to be the impact on local traffic, parking, and quality of life as thousands of soccer fans converge on the stadium for another high-profile international event.
