Three Candidates for Hudson County Commissioner Distict 9

Preliminary unofficial election results reported Tuesday night by NJ.com show Alex Valdez leading the only contested race on the ballot affecting Harrison residents, the Democratic Primary for Hudson County Commissioner representing the 9th District.

According to the results posted by NJ.com as of approximately 11 p.m., Valdez received 1,782 votes, followed by Harrison Councilman Larry Bennett with 1,213 votes and Mina Ekiadious with 1,127 votes.

Based upon those preliminary figures, Valdez holds a lead of 569 votes over Bennett. The race for second place remains much closer, with Bennett holding an 86-vote advantage over Ekiadious.

At the time of publication, the results remain unofficial and incomplete. NJ.com did not indicate what percentage of precincts or ballots had been reported, making it impossible to determine how much of the total vote is represented by the numbers currently available.

Compounding the uncertainty, the Hudson County Clerk's Office had not posted any election results on its official website as of 11 p.m. Tuesday evening. Residents seeking official election information were unable to verify the numbers through the county's election reporting system.

The Hudson County Commissioner representing the 9th District serves residents of Harrison, Kearny, East Newark, Secaucus, and a portion of Jersey City. The race attracted significant local attention, particularly as it was the only contested election on Harrison's ballot. In addition, Larry Bennett, a Councilman in Harrison, supported a Toxic Sludge Plant in Harrison, while both of his opponents opposed it, stating that it posed health risks to residents given its placement in a residential community.

YourHarrison.com will continue to monitor the race and provide updates as soon as official election results become available from Hudson County election officials.
