For entertainment, the renowned Casa do Minho Drum Group Os Rouxinóis will perform, bringing the traditions of Portugal to life through music and rhythm. Later in the afternoon, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., a DJ will provide music for dancing and entertainment.
Organizers note that drinks are not included with admission. Members can review or renew their membership conveniently online, while those who wish to join the organization can become a member for just $30 per year. Non-members are welcome to attend the day’s festivities by purchasing an entry for $35.00.
About the Centro Romeu Cascaes Portuguese American Community Center
Founded in the 1970s, the Centro Romeu Cascaes Portuguese American Community Center has long served as a cultural and social hub for the Portuguese-American community in Harrison and the surrounding areas. Named in honor of Romeu Cascaes, a longtime resident of Harrison and involved in many charitable and educational endeavors through the years, the center offers a space where generations come together to celebrate their Portuguese-American heritage, language, and customs. You don’t have to be of Portuguese heritage to join the organization, although your voting rights are restricted; a compromise was reached to preserve the club’s heritage as a Portuguese-American organization.
One of the center’s most notable annual events is the Portugal Day Celebration in June, held in honor of national poet Luís de Camões, whose writings symbolize Portugal’s Golden Age of exploration and culture. This vibrant celebration, filled with music, food, and traditional performances, attracts community members and visitors alike, highlighting the center’s role in keeping Portuguese traditions alive in Harrison.
A Community Celebration
Membership Day offers more than just food and entertainment—it is a chance for the club’s members to come together, recognize the importance of membership support, and welcome new friends into the fold. By maintaining or renewing their memberships, community members help ensure that the Centro Romeu Cascaes remains a thriving cornerstone of cultural life in Harrison for years to come.
