Red Bulls Host Atlanta United Sat. 11/7/26 at Sports Illustrated
Nov 07, 2026
The New York Red Bulls will welcome Atlanta United FC to Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison on Saturday, November 7, 2026, for a 4 p.m. kickoff in the final Major League Soccer (MLS) regular-season match for both clubs.
The contest is part of MLS Decision Day, when teams across the league conclude their regular-season schedules and the remaining playoff positions are determined.
Although neither New York nor Atlanta will qualify for the 2026 MLS Cup Playoffs, Saturday's matchup offers both teams an opportunity to finish their seasons on a positive note. For the Red Bulls, the afternoon will also feature Fan Day celebrations and recognition of veteran defender Tim Parker, who has announced his retirement from professional soccer.
The Red Bulls enter the match with 11 victories, 16 losses and six draws, totaling 39 points. Atlanta United arrives with nine victories, 18 losses and six draws, totaling 33 points.
Atlanta United FC was founded in 2014 and began competing in Major League Soccer in 2017 as an expansion franchise.
Georgia-based club has established itself as one of the league's most recognizable franchises, building a large and passionate following.
Atlanta United plays its home matches at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, a modern, retractable-roof stadium shared with the NFL's Atlanta Falcons. The stadium has a standard soccer seating configuration of approximately 42,500, although it can accommodate substantially larger crowds when additional seating sections are opened.
The club's greatest accomplishment came in 2018, when Atlanta United captured the MLS Cup championship in only its second season of competition, defeating the Portland Timbers 2-0 before a crowd of more than 73,000 spectators.
Atlanta followed that success by winning the 2019 U.S. Open Cup and the 2019 Campeones Cup.
The club's early success helped demonstrate the growing popularity of professional soccer in the southeastern United States.
Atlanta's 2026 season, however, has been considerably less successful. With only nine victories entering Saturday's match, the team will be looking to end a disappointing campaign with a road victory in Harrison.
Red Bulls Have Dominated Atlanta at Home
Historically, the Red Bulls have enjoyed considerable success against Atlanta United, particularly when playing in Harrison.
Entering Saturday's contest, New York holds a 9-3-6 record against Atlanta in 18 previous regular-season meetings.
More impressively, Atlanta has never defeated the Red Bulls in a regular-season match at Sports Illustrated Stadium.
In eight previous home meetings, New York has recorded five victories and three draws, outscoring Atlanta 13 goals to three.
That history gives the Red Bulls a favorable record to defend as they conclude the season before their home supporters.
Young Red Bulls Players Chase Individual Milestones
One of the most interesting developments during the Red Bulls' 2026 season has been the emergence of young attacking talent.
Forward Julian Hall enters Saturday's match with 13 goals, tying the MLS single-season record for goals scored by a teenager, previously achieved by Ricardo Pepi in 2021 and Diego Fagundez in 2013. A goal against Atlanta would give Hall the record outright.
Midfielder Adri Mehmeti, a Staten Island New York native, has recorded nine MLS assists this season and needs just one more to reach double digits. According to the Red Bulls, achieving that milestone would make him the second-youngest player in league history to register at least 10 assists in a single season.
Both players represent important pieces of the club's future as New York prepares for the next MLS campaign.
Red Bulls Defender Tim Parker Announces Retirement
Saturday's match will also mark a significant moment for veteran defender Tim Parker, who has announced that he will retire following the conclusion of the 2026 MLS season.
Parker, 33, played 12 seasons in Major League Soccer, including five with New York.
He originally joined the Red Bulls in 2018 following a trade with the Vancouver Whitecaps and became an important member of the team's defensive lineup.
During the 2018 season, Parker helped New York capture the Supporters' Shield, awarded to the MLS team with the best regular-season record.
His retirement provides an additional storyline for Saturday's game, as Red Bulls supporters have an opportunity to recognize a player who contributed to one of the club's most successful seasons.
Atlanta's Star Players and Familiar Head Coach
Atlanta United's roster features several internationally experienced players, including Paraguayan midfielder Miguel Almirón, Russian attacking midfielder Alexey Miranchuk and Ivory Coast forward Emmanuel Latte Lath.
Almirón is particularly important to Atlanta's history. He was a member of the club's 2018 championship team before moving to England's Newcastle United. His return to Atlanta brought an experienced attacking player back to the franchise.
Atlanta is coached by Gerardo Tata Martino, who returned to the club for the 2026 season after previously guiding Atlanta to its 2018 MLS championship.
Martino also served as head coach of Inter Miami, where he worked with Lionel Messi, and previously managed the national teams of Argentina and Mexico.
A Historic Playoff Rivalry
Although the Red Bulls have dominated regular-season home meetings with Atlanta, the clubs share an important postseason history.
In November 2018, Atlanta United defeated the Red Bulls 3-1 on aggregate in the Eastern Conference Championship.
Atlanta won the opening match 3-0 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium before New York claimed a 1-0 victory in Harrison in the return match.
Interestingly, Tim Parker scored the Red Bulls' lone goal in that second match, during stoppage time. Atlanta advanced to the MLS Cup Final and defeated Portland to claim its first league championship.
Fan Day Offers Giveaways and Special Events
The Red Bulls have designated Saturday's contest as Fan Day, presented by Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), with activities beginning well before kickoff.
The stadium's BULLevard fan area opens at 12:30 p.m. The first 1,500 fans there will receive branded disposable cameras, while the first 10,000 spectators entering the stadium will receive Red Bulls tote bags.
The team is also offering selected $5 concession items before kickoff and a 15% discount at the BULLshop.
Harrison Residents Should Prepare for Stadium Traffic and Parking Restrictions
For Harrison residents, Saturday's soccer match will bring the familiar challenges associated with thousands of spectators traveling to Sports Illustrated Stadium.
The 25,000-seat stadium is at 600 Cape May Street in Harrison's southern redevelopment area, within walking distance of the Harrison PATH station. It is three blocks from the proposed EPA Toxic Sludge Plant, which became a catalyst for an unsuccessful write-in campaign by residents seeking to unseat Harrison Mayor James Fife and Council members James Doran, Jesus Huaranga, Joseph Diaco, and James Woods. Mayor Fife, who also serves as Harrison’s Chairman of the Harrison Redevelopment Agency, hid in 2022 through 2024 the fact that the EPA planned an open-air dioxin sludge processing plant at PSE&G property. Vehicle and pedestrian congestion can be expected before and after the game, particularly along South Frank E. Rodgers Boulevard, Cape May Street, the Jackson Street Bridge and the streets surrounding the stadium.
The Harrison Police Department has historically implemented temporary traffic-control measures for major stadium events, including restrictions affecting South Frank E. Rodgers Boulevard, Peter B. Higgins Boulevard, Crucible Drive and Guyon Drive.
Residents should be aware that:
- Traffic may increase during the early afternoon as fans arrive for Fan Day activities, which start at 12:30 p.m.
- Parking availability near the stadium may be limited. The Harrison Town Garage, operated by LAZ, may be the best parking option.
- Police may establish temporary street closures and traffic-control points.
- Additional congestion is possible after the match as spectators leave the stadium.
Fans traveling from New York City, Newark or Jersey City may find the PATH train a convenient alternative to driving.
Soccer Continues Sunday With Gotham FC Playoff Match
Saturday's Red Bulls game will be followed by another major soccer event in Harrison.
On Sunday, November 8, NJ/NY Gotham FC is scheduled to face Seattle Reign FC at 12:30 p.m. in the National Women's Soccer League playoffs at Sports Illustrated Stadium.
The back-to-back matches mean the stadium neighborhood can expect two consecutive days of soccer-related activity, with additional visitors, parking demand, and pedestrian traffic.
Tickets are available through the New York Red Bulls official website
