The NJ/NY Gotham FC women’s soccer team will host the Kansas City Current in a highly anticipated National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) clash on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey. This match not only brings together two dynamic teams in the league but also serves as a centerpiece event for Gotham FC’s Pride Month celebrations.

Club Background

Founded in 2009 as Sky Blue FC, NJ/NY Gotham FC was a founding member of the NWSL in 2013 and underwent a full rebrand in 2021 to reflect its broader regional identity. Gotham FC plays its home games at the Sports Illustrated Stadium (formerly Red Bull Arena) in Harrison, NJ. The stadium seats approximately 25,000 fans and is known for its electric atmosphere and state-of-the-art amenities.

The Kansas City Current, meanwhile, is one of the newer powerhouses in the NWSL. Established in 2021, the team represents Kansas City, Missouri, and has quickly become a formidable presence in the league. The Current play their home matches at CPKC Stadium, a newly built, soccer-specific venue located at Berkley Riverfront Park. The stadium has a capacity of about 11,500 and is the first stadium purpose-built for a professional women’s soccer team in the world.

Pride Match

Gotham FC will be celebrating Pride Month at Saturday’s game. The day's festivities begin with a pre-match Pride Brunch from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at CrossBar, located on the stadium's plaza level between Gates B and C. Hosted by New York-based drag queens Chelsea Piers and Mariyea, the brunch offers a buffet and a drink ticket, creating an energetic atmosphere leading into the game. Tickets for Pride Brunch are available here.

Adding to the celebration, RuPaul’s Drag Race star Jan Sport will perform the national anthem, and New York Liberty's Breanna Stewart, a three-time WNBA champion and Olympic gold medalist, will light the pregame torch, symbolizing unity and support for the LGBTQIA+ community.

On the field, Gotham FC is hopeful for the return of USWNT midfielder Rose Lavelle, who has been sidelined due to an ankle injury. Head coach Juan Carlos Amorós expressed optimism about her potential participation, which could provide a significant boost to the team.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early to partake in the festivities and show their support for both the team and the LGBTQIA+ community. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster.

Harrison Traffic Bulletin

Given the expected high attendance and road closures around the stadium, the Harrison Police Department is likely to issue a Traffic Bulletin. These advisories will detail street closures in the South Frank E. Rodgers Boulevard area, particularly near the Harrison PATH Station and the Riverbend District. As with prior major sporting events, the bulletin is expected to outline police-escorted access for residents of nearby homes and apartment complexes to ensure smooth and safe passage during game-day congestion.

With both Gotham FC and Kansas City Current competing for top spots in the NWSL standings and a packed day of celebrations planned, Saturday’s match promises to be both a thrilling sporting contest and a joyful celebration of Pride, unity, and community.
