Red Bulls v. C.D. Guadalajara (Chivas) Thurs. July 31, 2025 7:30 PM
Jul 30, 2025
The New York Red Bulls were founded in October 1994 as the MetroStars and commenced play in MLS’s inaugural season in 1996. After being acquired by Red Bull GmbH in 2006, the club adopted its current name and branding
The New York Red Bulls soccer-specific venue seats approximately 25,000 spectators, making it one of the largest in MLS Memberships in the stadium’s premium Club SI sections are sold out for the 2025 season, though there remain limited single-match tickets and flex plans available. Given the international scope of this Leagues Cup contest and the popularity of both clubs, the stadium is strongly expected to sell out for this game against the New York Red Bulls.
C.D. Guadalajara (Chivas): Legacy and Stadium
C.D. Guadalajara, known worldwide as Chivas, is one of Mexico’s most storied clubs. They play at Estadio Akron in Zapopan (greater Guadalajara), which opened in 2010.
The stadium holds roughly 49,580 to 49,850 fans (depending on configuration), with all seats covered. Competing in Liga MX, Mexico’s top division, Chivas are part of the 18 Liga MX teams participating in the 2025 Leagues Cup. Their inclusion brings substantial prestige to the tournament, as they are perennial contenders in Mexican and CONCACAF play.
What Is the Leagues Cup?
The 2025 Leagues Cup is a midsummer tournament (July 29–August 31) featuring 36 clubs—18 from Major League Soccer (MLS) and 18 from Liga MX—competing in stadiums across the United States and Canada.
In the Leagues Cup, Phase One consists of three group-stage matches, each MLS team facing three Liga MX opponents (no intra-league matchups yet). The top four from each league advance to the cross-over quarterfinals, then semifinals, third-place playoff, and final. The top three finishers earn spots in the 2026 CONCACAF Champions Cup
This revamped format emphasizes intense inter‑league rivalry and elevates the stakes for both U.S. and Mexican clubs aiming for continental honors.
Harrison Police Traffic Bulletin
In anticipation of the match, the Harrison Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau has issued an official Traffic Bulletin. The statement advises motorists to expect heavy congestion and road closures on South Frank E. Rodgers Boulevard and side streets off South Rodgers. Officers will be deployed to key traffic “hot spots” to manage flow and enforce restrictions.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early, avoid prohibited parking zones, and consider remote or shared parking with a short walk-in to the stadium to reduce local congestion and ensure safe, timely access.
As Leagues Cup competition heats up, this matchup represents one of the marquee fixtures of Phase One—an MLS original hosting one of Liga MX’s flagship brands in front of what is expected to be a packed house. The stakes are high, the atmosphere will be electric, and the outcome could shape both clubs’ runs toward continental qualification.
The next day, on Friday, August 1, 2025, there is a Double Header for the Leagues Cup, which starts at 6 p.m. Local residents were subjected to traffic last Friday and Saturday from back-to-back sold-out concerts, so Friday’s league double header is not what many locals would have scheduled on the heels of last week’s concerts. Consideration for residents is not necessarily on the Red Bull’s organization list of priorities.
