Lane Closure on Wittpenn Bridge Will Affect Harrison–J.C. Commutes
Aug 18, 2025
Drivers traveling from Harrison into Jersey City should prepare for delays as the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) closed a lane on the Route 7 eastbound ramp leading from the Wittpenn Bridge last Friday, August 15, 2025.
The closure, which is part of ongoing Pulaski Skyway rehabilitation work, will reduce the right lane of the ramp to Newark Avenue and Route 1&9 Truck southbound. The left lane will remain open, and once traffic reaches the signal at Route 1&9 Truck, all three lanes on the ramp will be maintained. The southbound exit ramp from Route 1&9 Truck to Newark Avenue will also remain open.
According to NJDOT, the lane restriction will remain in place until the end of the year. The work is necessary to repair and strengthen Pulaski Skyway piers 44 and 45, as well as span 44 in Jersey City.
Project Background
The Pulaski Skyway, a 92-year-old structure, is undergoing extensive rehabilitation through a series of contracts. This latest phase, Contract 8B, is one of several ongoing projects designed to extend the life of the historic roadway while coordinating with other regional transportation improvements.
Impact on Drivers
Commuters traveling from Harrison and other Hudson County towns into Jersey City by car may face increased congestion during peak hours. NJDOT will use variable message signs to alert drivers about traffic pattern changes.
