Harrison Veterans Day Ceremony Tuesday, November 11, 2025 Library Park
Nov 07, 2025
The Town of Harrison will pause on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, to honor the brave men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces during its annual Veterans Day Ceremony. The event, organized by Harrison Post 282 of the American Legion and Sergeant William Sawelson VFW Post 340, will take place at 11 a.m. at Veterans Plaza in Library Park, located in the heart of town.
Residents are encouraged to attend and pay tribute to those who have defended the nation’s freedoms, as the community gathers in solemn reflection and gratitude.
A Town’s Tradition of Remembrance
For generations, Harrison has maintained a steadfast tradition of honoring its veterans through both Veterans Day and Memorial Day observances. These annual ceremonies, led by the town’s dedicated veterans organizations, are reminders that the cost of liberty must never be forgotten.

New Vietnam Veterans Memorial
The ceremony at Veterans Plaza—a peaceful sanctuary of remembrance—stands as a lasting tribute to local service members who made the ultimate sacrifice in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Its monuments and markers invite residents and visitors alike to pause, reflect, and remember the courage of those who served.
Honoring Harrison’s Vietnam Heroes
A highlight of Harrison’s veterans tributes in recent years has been the recognition of the town’s Vietnam War veterans, whose service and sacrifice remain an enduring source of pride. Among those remembered are Joseph P. Mobus, Lance Corporal Donald B. Scott, and Army Sergeant David Robertson—three local heroes whose bravery has been memorialized both in town and beyond.
Mobus, a soldier with the 1st Cavalry Division, was awarded the Purple Heart for his service in Vietnam. Scott, a 1st Marine Division machine gunner, also earned the Purple Heart and other commendations for his sacrifice. Robertson, of the 4th Infantry Division, was recognized for his combat service and his Combat Infantryman Badge.
Legacy Etched Into Harrison’s Streets
Over a decade ago, the late Mayor Raymond J. McDonough and the Town Council paid lasting tribute to Mobus and Scott by renaming Hill Street as Scott Mobus Place—the street where both young men grew up. A commemorative plaque at Harrison High School also honors Donald Scott’s legacy, highlighting his athletic excellence and his dedication to his country.
Community Invited to Attend
As Harrison continues its long-standing commitment to honoring those who served, residents are encouraged to join Harrison Post 282 American Legion and Sergeant William Sawelson VFW Post 340 at this year’s ceremony.
Participants will include local veterans, community leaders, and members of the public who wish to express their appreciation for the service and sacrifices of America’s military personnel.
Through remembrance, reflection, and unity, Harrison continues to embody a deep and enduring respect for its veterans—not only on Veterans Day, but every day of the year.
