Harrison Public Schools Launch 2025 Summer Swim Program
Jul 02, 2025
The Harrison Public Schools are once again offering their annual Summer Swim Program, a great way for residents to stay cool, have fun, and learn swimming skills during the summer months. The program runs from Monday, July 7, 2025, through the end of August and is open to residents of Harrison and East Newark.
π Program Location
The main registration site is the Harrison High School Pool, located on the Hamilton Street side of the school at 401 Kingsland Avenue. Please use the Hamilton Street entrance to access the pool area.
Note: Flyers for the swim program mention both the Harrison High School Pool and the Washington Middle School Pool (at Harrison Avenue and North 5th Street), but it is currently unclear which, or if both facilities, will be in use. This article will be updated once school officials confirm the pool locations.

π Community Access
While many modern apartment buildings in Harrison’s Redevelopment Zone have private pools, not all residents have access to swimming facilities. This public program ensures everyone in the community—especially families and children—has an affordable, safe place to enjoy the water this summer. The plan to build a Community Center which would include a Pool at the PSE&G property has been derailed because Mayor James Fife and Councilman & Harrison Schools Director of Personnel James Doran are supporting the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s plan to use the PSE&G property for a Toxic Sludge Plant & Construction Equipment and Supplies staging area. More information on EPA's plan can be found through this link.
Stay tuned for updates on confirmed pool locations and additional program information.
