The Harrison Police Department will host its annual National Night Out on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Harrison Library Park, located at 415 Harrison Avenue, between South Frank E. Rodgers Boulevard and North 5th Street in the heart of Harrison, New Jersey. A co-sponsor of the event is the Harrison/East Newark Elks Lodge #2326.

The event invites residents of all ages to enjoy an evening of community connection, fun activities, and public safety awareness. The celebration will feature snacks, face painting, interactive games, and family-friendly entertainment. In addition, the Harrison Police Department has invited local merchants to participate and showcase their businesses as part of the evening’s festivities. After sunset, families are welcome to stay for a Movie in the Park screening under the stars, rounding out an evening of relaxation and unity.

A National Movement for Safer Communities

National Night Out is more than just a night of festivities—it is a nationwide initiative aimed at fostering positive relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve. First introduced in 1984 by Matt Peskin of the National Association of Town Watch, National Night Out began as a way to promote neighborhood camaraderie and strengthen partnerships between the police and the public. That first event included over 2.5 million participants across 400 communities in 23 states. Today, it has grown into a massive annual campaign engaging over 38 million neighbors in thousands of towns and cities across the United States of America.

In Harrison, the Police Department has embraced National Night Out as a key pillar of its Community Policing philosophy—a strategy that emphasizes mutual respect, collaboration, and trust-building between officers and the residents they serve.

A Commitment Beyond One Night

National Night Out is just one part of a larger, year-round commitment by the Harrison Police Department’s Community Policing Unit to engage with residents in meaningful ways. The department regularly hosts Pizza With A Cop events throughout Harrison—informal gatherings that bring officers into neighborhoods to speak with residents over complimentary pizza and refreshments. These events, publicized by Your Harrison, are part of a deliberate effort to reach every neighborhood in town, making it easier for families, youth, and seniors to connect with officers and share their concerns in a relaxed setting.

In addition to Pizza With A Cop, the Harrison Police Department has a longstanding tradition of participating in community-building events, such as citizenship drives, school safety programs, and seasonal holiday activities. These efforts highlight the department’s broader mission to serve not just as law enforcers, but as active community partners.

Join the Celebration

Residents are encouraged to bring their families, neighbors, and friends to Harrison Library Park on August 5th at 6 pm to enjoy the festivities and meet the officers who help keep the community safe. For more information about National Night Out or upcoming community events, contact Police Officer Nichirco by email at [email protected] or call 973-483-4100, extension 4510.

Come out and enjoy a night of unity, fun, and connection—because a safer Harrison starts with neighbors working together.
