Updated: Wednesday 7/27/2022 at 11 a.m. No Agendas Yet. See bottom of this article (blog post) for Zoom Meeting Links and information on Zoom..

Last week’s Tuesday, July 19, 2022, Regular Meeting of the Harrison Mayor & Council, and the Wednesday, July 20, 2022 meeting of the Harrison Board of Adjustment were canceled. In place of the Harrison Board of Adjustment meeting, a Special Meeting of the Planning Board was held on Wednesday for Preliminary and Final Major Site Plan Approval of the 485 Apartment Building at the RCA Redevelopment Zone which was recently demolished under DEP supervision because of mercury contamination. See our article entitled Harrison Town Meeting Off Special Planning Board Meeting Is On.

Today, July 25, 2022, the Harrison Redevelopment Agency held its meeting scheduled for 1 p.m. via Zoom but the meeting was delayed until past 1:30 p.m. due to a reported Lightning Strike at Town Hall that took down the Town Hall phone system.  With four Harrison Redevelopment Agency members voting including Chairman Mayor James Fife voting, the following resolutions were passed: (1) Approval of Minutes of 5/23/2022 (with one member abstaining), (2) Resolution Approving the Bills List (the list was not available for public review on Town website, however), (3) Resolution Approving the Fifth Extension of Deadlines for the Redevelopment of the Property located at South Frank E. Rodgers Blvd. (the old Hartz property) and (4) Resolution Conceptually Approving the Town’s Plan for the Cape May Street Park (no plan was available for review by the public)

On Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at 5:45 p.m. the Harrison Planning Board will be meeting for the second week in a row. The Harrison Planning Board had a Special Meeting on Wednesday, July 20, 2022.

Unlike the last meeting, the Harrison Planning Board Meeting on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, will NOT be in person but via Zoom.  The Agenda as of late Tuesday night has not been released but is more than likely the following two items:

The first item will likely be Developer BRG Harrison Lofts Urban Renewal (BRG) variance application. BRG will be getting its variance application to provide 335 parking spaces onsite for its 485 new apartments in the RCA Redevelopment Zone.  There would be a shortage of parking spaces if you assume one vehicle per apartment. Most households have two vehicles which would mean an additional 970 cars requiring a parking spot and only 335 parking spaces onsite.  Therefore, there would be 635 vehicles looking for a parking space on the street.  If you are a Harrison resident, you already know that parking has become increasingly more difficult.

The second likely item is the review of the Plan for the Cape May Street Park and approval of the same.  The Administration has been promising Green Space and it is an Election Year.

To cap off the week, the Mayor & Council have scheduled a Special Meeting of the Mayor & Council for Thursday, July 28, 2022, at 6:30 pm via Zoom. The Agenda for the Town Meeting has likewise not been posted on the Town of Harrison website.
