Oct 06, 2025
In a bold move that has stirred both excitement and frustration, Happy Hive Productions, LLC is slated to begin principal photography on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, in the northern section of Harrison, New Jersey. The project, entitled The Last Mrs. Parrish, is destined for release on Netflix and is based on the bestselling psychological thriller by Liv Constantine.
Originally published in 2017, The Last Mrs. Parrish is the work of sisters Lynne and Valerie Constantine writing under the pen name Liv Constantine. The novel became a popular selection in book clubs and has been translated into numerous languages.
The story centers on Amber Patterson, a woman fed up with her anonymity and determined to secure wealth, status, and power. She infiltrates the lives of Daphne and Jackson Parrish — a glamorous, affluent couple — by ingratiating herself with Daphne then edging her way into Jackson’s affections. But as Amber digs deeper, she uncovers that Daphne’s life is more complex, full of secrets and deceptions that may jeopardize Amber’s meticulously crafted plan.
In adaptation for Netflix, The Last Mrs. Parrish will be directed by Robert Zemeckis, best known for films such as Forrest Gump and Back to the Future. The screenplay is penned by Andrea Berloff and John Gatins.
Cast & Crew
While full casting details remain forthcoming, several names have already been confirmed or widely reported:
- Jennifer Lopez: Lopez is slated to star and produce. In the Netflix adaptation, she is often linked with the role of Daphne Parrish.
- Background: A multihyphenate entertainer with a decades-long career in music, acting, and producing, Lopez has increasingly partnered with Netflix projects (for example, The Mother). Her involvement as both lead and producer suggests this will be a high-profile vehicle for her.
- Nikolaj Coster-Waldau: The Danish actor, best known internationally as Jaime Lannister in Game of Thrones, has been cast as Jackson Parrish.
- Background: Coster-Waldau has a long career both in European cinema and international series. His involvement brings gravitas and name recognition to the male lead.
- Isabel May: Reported to take on the role of Amber Patterson, the ambitious outsider who inserts herself into the Parrish family.
- Background: May has appeared in shows like Young Sheldon and 1883. Her relatively young profile may make her a fresh counterpoint to Lopez and Coster-Waldau.
- Pierson Fodé: Though his exact role is less clear, Fodé has been announced as part of the cast.
- Background: Fodé has appeared in film and television, often in supporting roles. His casting suggests he might play a pivotal secondary character, possibly linked to the Parrish household or Amber’s schemes.
Local Impact & Street Closures
Despite the production’s entertainment appeal, the choice of location in Harrison is already generating friction with residents. The area selected, in the northern part of town, is already known to struggle with parking availability, and on October 7, 2025, Happy Hive Productions will occupy public streets from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. to facilitate filming. This prolonged control over neighborhood streets is viewed by many locals as an undue hardship.
Here are the street closures and restrictions:
- North 3rd Street
• Both sides, full block between Cross Street and William Street
• West side, full block between William Street and Hamilton Street
• East side, half block between William Street and Hamilton Street - William Street
• Both sides, half block between North 2nd Street and North 3rd Street
• North side, half block between North 3rd Street and Frank E. Rodgers Blvd N
• South side, quarter block between North 3rd Street and Frank E. Rodgers Blvd N - Frank E. Rodgers Blvd N
• West side, full blocks between Sherman Avenue and Central Avenue
In addition to blocking vehicle traffic, the production has barred both motor vehicle and pedestrian access on those designated no-parking segments, further limiting mobility for residents in the immediate zone.
Local Facebook groups have become a hub for commentary. Many residents have posted complaints about losing access to street parking during the filming hours, difficulty receiving deliveries, and disrupted pedestrian routes. Some posts also express concern that Jennifer Lopez will not actually film on location in Harrison at all, insinuating that her name is being used for publicity even if she never steps on the local set. Countering that, a number of residents have voiced support for hosting a Netflix production in Harrison, citing potential economic benefits or local prestige. The economic benefits to the community are questionable as the Town of Harrison's fees for film producers is not significant. There may, however, be more substantial economic benefits to individual property owners whose homes may be used in the filming of the movie.
To address concerns, the production team distributed a flyer to the surrounding neighborhood. It states that the cast and crew "will make every effort to minimize the impact on the neighborhood" and gives a contact phone number for residents to call about deliveries, accessibility, or urgent needs during the shoot.
