Mobile Mammogram Screenings Coming to Harrison on Thurs. June 19, 2025
Jun 13, 2025
In a vital effort to improve community health, University Hospital, partnering with Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, will bring its Mammography in Motion mobile screening unit to Harrison, NJ, on Thursday, June 19, 2025. You may recall that the Mammography in Motion came to Harrison in April of this year.
The state-of-the-art vehicle will be stationed outside the Harrison Senior Citizen Center at 221 Harrison Avenue, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The program offers private, advanced 3D digital mammograms. Appointments are required and can be scheduled through this link.
“This initiative ensures every woman has a fighting chance,” said Maria DeAlmeida, University Hospital’s Cultural Liaison and longtime community liaison. “Early detection through regular screenings can dramatically improve breast cancer survival rates.”
Why Breast Cancer Screening Matters
Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women and a leading cause of cancer-related deaths, second only to lung cancer. Alarmingly, 75% of those diagnosed have no family history, highlighting the importance of routine screenings starting at age 40.
The mobile unit serves both insured and uninsured women. Through the S.A.V.E. program, support is available for individuals who are underinsured or uninsured. No prescription is necessary to receive a mammogram.
