Harrison NJ Braces for World Cup Stadium Traffic

Sports Illustrated Stadium will continue to be a major World Cup gathering place as the NYNJ World Cup 26 Jersey Fan Hub hosts additional Group Stage watch parties on June 25, June 26, and June 27.

The Fan Hub is the official New Jersey fan experience for the FIFA World Cup 2026 NYNJ Host Committee. The stadium events include live World Cup match broadcasts, fan activities, entertainment, community programming, and opportunities for fans to gather inside the stadium. Admission is free but you must get a ticket online in order to be admitted into the stadium.  You can get a ticket through this link

This stretch of the World Cup calendar may be one of the busiest for Harrison because NYNJ Stadium will also host two official FIFA World Cup matches during the same period. Ecuador will play Germany at NYNJ Stadium on June 25 at 4 p.m., and Panama will play England at NYNJ Stadium on June 27 at 5 p.m.

While those matches will be played in East Rutherford, Harrison may still feel the impact. Sports Illustrated Stadium’s Fan Hub can attract fans into Harrison before, during, and after World Cup matches. Visitors may use the Harrison PATH Station, local parking areas, nearby restaurants, and local streets. Some fans traveling through Newark or Harrison may also add to congestion in the Ironbound section of Newark, especially near the Jackson Street Bridge, Raymond Boulevard, Ferry Street, and routes leading toward Harrison.

For Harrison residents, the most affected areas are expected to include South Frank E. Rodgers Boulevard, Cape May Street, the area around the Harrison PATH Station, the Riverbend District, and the streets surrounding Sports Illustrated Stadium.

The June 27 match between Panama and England could bring especially strong regional interest. England’s national team has a large following, and a late afternoon match at NYNJ Stadium combined with a Fan Hub event in Harrison could result in increased traffic, more pedestrians, and heavier use of public transportation.

Residents should plan ahead by checking local traffic bulletins, allowing extra travel time, avoiding unnecessary trips near the stadium, and using caution around increased pedestrian crossings.

The World Cup is a historic event for New Jersey, but Harrison residents will experience the local effects directly. The benefits of international attention and fan activity come with real concerns about congestion, policing, overtime, parking, and quality of life for residents in town and especially near the stadium.
