Harrison Issues Emergency Alert Ahead of Major Snowstorm 2025
Jan 24, 2026
The Town of Harrison has issued an Emergency Alert in advance of a major snowstorm forecast for Sunday, January 25, 2026, through Monday, January 26, 2026. Residents are urged to prepare now and closely follow all parking and safety instructions as the storm approaches.
Significant Snow and Ice Expected
According to independent metrologist Anthony “Tony” Mondaro of the Harrison Weather Station, the storm is expected to bring 6 to 12 inches of snow to the area. Forecasts also indicate that sleet and freezing rain may mix with the snowfall, potentially reducing total snow accumulation but significantly increasing hazardous conditions.
Ice poses particular challenges, as it is more difficult to remove from sidewalks and roadways and often requires repeated applications of snow melt to prevent dangerous, slippery surfaces. Compounding the issue, snow melt and rock salt are currently in short supply, as many snow removal contractors and homeowners experienced this week at both big-box retailers and local hardware stores.
Widespread and Prolonged Winter Conditions
This storm is part of a larger winter system affecting more than three-fourths of the United States, with 34 states currently under weather advisories or warnings, stretching from Arizona to New England. Very cold temperatures are expected to persist through Wednesday, January 28, 2026, meaning little to no melting of snow and ice once the storm passes.
🚫 NO PARKING DURING SNOW EMERGENCY

To allow the Harrison Department of Public Works (DPW) to pre-salt roadways and clean the snow from the roadway and later remove snow from curb to curb, NO PARKING will be permitted on the following streets beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2026, until further notice:
- Harrison Avenue — from 2nd Street to Schuyler Avenue
- Frank E. Rodgers Boulevard (North & South) — between Bergen Street and Scott Mobus Place
NO PARKING signage will be posted, and vehicles left in restricted areas may be ticketed and towed during the snow emergency.
Residents are strongly encouraged to double-check where their vehicles are parked and to take advantage of FREE parking at the Harrison Parking Deck, located across from the HARRISON PATH Station.
FREE PARKING
Free parking will be available starting at noon on Saturday, January 24, 2026, through at least Monday, for Harrison residents with a valid Resident Parking Permit.
For questions or additional information, residents may contact the Harrison Police Traffic Safety Division at the non-emergency number (973) 483-4100, and select the Traffic Division when prompted.
