Residents, runners, walkers, families, and even dog lovers are invited to take part in the upcoming Harrison Community 5K on Sunday, May 31, 2026, in the Town of Harrison, New Jersey.

The community-focused event will begin at 9 a.m., rain or shine, at Veterans Plaza in the Franklin D. Roosevelt Park, also known to many residents as Library Park, located at 415 Harrison Avenue in Harrison.

Organizers describe the event as a celebration of America’s 250th Anniversary while also promoting health, wellness, and community engagement throughout Harrison. The event is expected to bring together local residents, competitive runners, casual walkers, families, and supporters from across the West Hudson, Essex County, and throughout the State of New Jersey.

According to organizers, all proceeds from the event will support local community charities and initiatives that benefit residents in Harrison and neighboring communities.  Although there were no specifics about which groups would benefit.

The Harrison Community 5K is being coordinated in partnership with the Purpose Runners Foundation, a nonprofit organization focused on encouraging active lifestyles, charitable outreach, and wellness programs through community running events.

Programs supported by the foundation include youth initiatives, charity partnerships, and local outreach efforts designed to strengthen neighborhoods and encourage community involvement.

Organizers stated that participants can expect a scenic and family-friendly course through Harrison streets and nearby park areas. Course highlights are expected to include community landmarks, spectator-friendly sections, volunteer support, and hydration stations along the route.

However, while the event has been publicly announced on the Town of Harrison website and registration information has been posted on EliteFeats and the Purpose Runners Foundation, the exact route for the race has not yet been released.

The race will include several participation options for residents of all ages and fitness levels:

  • 5K Run/Walk — $38.98 registration fee
  • 1.5K Walk — Free
  • Dog Walk — Free

Organizers also announced that the first 300 registrants will receive an official event T-shirt.

Following the race, participants and spectators are expected to enjoy a lively finish area featuring music, wellness activities, and opportunities for community gathering.

The event’s sponsors include:

  • St. Michael’s Medical Center
  • Premier Case Associates of West Hudson
  • CKO Kickboxing
  • Alamo Insurance Group Inc.
  • Ferreira Construction
  • Dunkin' in Harrison

With America’s Semiquincentennial celebrations taking place across the country in 2026, the Harrison Community 5K is expected to provide residents with an opportunity to celebrate local pride, community spirit, fitness, and charitable giving all in one event.

Organizers encourage runners, walkers, families, and pet owners to come out and participate in what is expected to be one of Harrison’s larger community wellness events of the spring season.
