Soccer fans will once again descend on the Town of Harrison this weekend as the Sports Illustrated Stadium prepares to host back-to-back professional soccer matches on Saturday, May 2, 2026, and Sunday, May 3, 2026.

The busy sports weekend is expected to bring thousands of fans into the Southern Harrison (SOHA) and Riverbend sections of town, creating another high-traffic weekend for residents living near the stadium complex.

New York Red Bulls Game

On Saturday, May 2, 2026, the New York Red Bulls will host FC Dallas in a Major League Soccer (MLS) matchup scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. Although the game officially starts in the evening, Harrison residents know that many fans begin arriving in the area as early as 3 p.m., especially those looking to beat the traffic and participate in activities outside the stadium before entering.

Gotham FC Game

The following evening, on Sunday, May 3, 2026, NJ/NY Gotham FC will host Racing Louisville FC in a National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) contest starting at 5 p.m. with activities before the game.

Red Bulls Continue Busy MLS Season

The New York Red Bulls, one of Major League Soccer’s original clubs, founded in 1996, continue their 2026 campaign at Sports Illustrated Stadium, formerly known as Red Bull Arena. The stadium, located along Frank E. Rodgers Boulevard South near the Passaic River waterfront, has a seating capacity of approximately 25,000 fans.

Entering the weekend, the Red Bulls are hovering around the middle of the MLS Eastern Conference standings as they continue to battle for playoff positioning in the early portion of the season.

FC Dallas, meanwhile, remains one of MLS’s longtime Western Conference clubs and arrives in Harrison, NJ, looking to gain valuable road points in interconference play.

Gotham FC Returns Home Sunday

Sunday’s match will once again bring women’s professional soccer back to Harrison, NJ, as Gotham FC hosts Racing Louisville FC.

Gotham FC traces its roots to 2006, when the club was founded as Sky Blue FC and later rebranded as Gotham FC. The team plays its home games at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, NJ, sharing the venue with the New York Red Bulls. The stadium’s seating capacity is approximately 25,000.

Gotham FC has become one of the most recognizable clubs in the NWSL and has featured some of the biggest stars in women’s soccer. The club has continued to gain national attention following recent championship success and high-profile player acquisitions. Recent league standings show Gotham FC competing near the upper portion of the NWSL table as the season continues.

Their opponent, Racing Louisville FC, was founded in 2020 as an expansion franchise in the National Women’s Soccer League. The club plays its home games at Lynn Family Stadium in Louisville, Kentucky, a modern soccer-specific stadium with a seating capacity of approximately 15,000 fans.

Racing Louisville has steadily developed into a competitive NWSL club and enters the weekend looking to improve its position in the league standings.

Traffic Bulletin Likely Expected

As of the publication of this article, the Harrison Police Department had not yet issued an official Traffic and Parking Bulletin for the weekend matches. However, residents familiar with stadium operations expect traffic advisories and parking restrictions to be announced prior to the games.

During major stadium events, portions of the SOHA and Riverbend neighborhoods frequently experience temporary road closures, restricted access points, heavy pedestrian traffic, and parking issues.

Residents Continue Raising Quality-of-Life Concerns

While traffic management around the stadium has improved in recent years, residents living in the neighborhood with the Sports Illustrated Stadium continue voicing quality-of-life concerns tied to the growing number of stadium events.

Residents of nearby residential developments, including the Steelworks complex, Vermella Harrison, The Wyldes, and The Cobalt Lofts, have repeatedly raised concerns about traffic congestion, noise, public access restrictions, and the difficulty of entering and leaving their neighborhoods during games and concerts.

Community members in the Southern Harrison (SOHA) section have acknowledged that coordination between local officials, police, and stadium operations has improved over time. However, many residents argue that the increasing number of events at Sports Illustrated Stadium, including concerts and non-soccer events, continues to place additional strain on the surrounding residential community.

The stadium is operated by Red Bulls management under a lease agreement with the Town of Harrison, and the venue’s expanding event calendar has remained a recurring topic of discussion among residents concerned about balancing economic activity with neighborhood quality of life. At a Mayor & Council meeting, Mayor Fife & the Council did not seem overly concerned about the increasing number of events at the Sports Illustrated Stadium.

Despite those concerns, the upcoming weekend is once again expected to bring a lively atmosphere to Harrison, with thousands of soccer fans attending the weekend doubleheader.
