The Patricia McGinty-Juhl, Harrison Post Office

You may have noticed when walking by the Harrison Post Office that the building is named after Patricia D. McGinty-Juhl.  Who is Patricia McGinty-Juhl? 

Patricia McGinty-Juhl was a resident of Harrison and a graduate of Harrison High School in 1972.  She went on to work for the United States Postal service for 33 years.  Her career started in Jersey City as a clerk at the New York International Bulk Mail Center.   In 1985 she accepted the position of Women’s Program Manager at United States Postal headquarters in Washington D.C.  Patricia held a variety of Human Resource and Government Relations Positions while in Washington.  In 1997, she transferred to United States Postal Service in Denver, Colorado.  Patricia passed away on October 16, 2006.

Postmaster General Jack Potter said of Patricia, “Patti will be greatly missed, both as a manager and as a warm and giving person.  She made a difference for the Postal Service and our employees.  New Jersey can be truly proud of this dedicated woman who left a legacy that continues to bring honor upon her beloved State and hometown.”

Congressman of the 13th District in New Jersey, Albio Sires, sponsored the bill entitled Public Law 111-132 designating the Post Office at 427 Harrison Avenue in Harrison NJ as the “Patricia D. McGinty–Juhl Post Office Building.”.  The Bill was passed on September 8, 2009.  President Barack Obama signed the Public Law on January 29, 2010.

The Harrison Post Office was formally named after Patricia on May 21, 2010, after a dedication ceremony at the post office.  Congressman Albio Sires, the late Harrison Mayor Raymond J. McDonough, Councilman Lawrence Bennett, Patricia’s husband Steven Juhl and family, United States Postal Service Norther NJ District Manager Priscilla M. Maney, President of National Association of Postal Supervisors Ted Keating, Executive Vice President of National Association of Postal Supervisors Louis Atkins and Postmaster of Harrison Kevin Caldwell were in attendance for the dedication ceremony,
