The Harrison Redevelopment Meeting scheduled for Monday, August 15, 2022, was adjourned to the following Monday, August 22, 2022.  The reason for the adjournment was not stated.

The Mayor & Council meeting will be held as scheduled on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, starting at 6:30 pm. via Zoom. The Link to the Tuesday, August 16, 2022 meeting is at the end of this article.

The Agenda for the Mayor & Council’s meeting on Tuesday contains several items:

Extension of Environmental Contamination Litigation Deadline

The reappointment of Mayor James Fife as Chairman of the Harrison Redevelopment Agency

Appointment of a new member to the Redevelopment Agency for the Unexpired Term of another member who did not complete her term.

The adoption of recommendations made by the Town Auditor.

The adoption of the “Corrective Action Plan” by the Town’s Treasurer to the Mayor & Council and the Director of the Division of Local Government Services related to the handling of payments in cash for town fees.

The Adoption of an Ordinance regarding Flooding in the Town of Harrison states in part “Federal Emergency Management Agency has identified special flood hazard areas within the boundaries of Town of Harrison and such areas may be subject to periodic inundation which may result in loss of life and property, health and safety hazards, disruption of commerce and governmental services, extraordinary public expenditures for flood protection and relief, and impairment of the tax base, all of which adversely affect the public health, safety, and general welfare”.

An Ordinance repealing Ordinance 1233 passed in February of 2011, twelve years ago, under a Memorandum of Understanding between the Town of Harrison and the Department of Community Services to obtain aid from the Department of Community Services, which would eliminate the requirement that the Mayor and Council members comply with the “New Jersey Local Unit Pay to Play Law.” And replace it with “New Jersey Law.”

There is both a time to address the Mayor & Council when an Ordinance is introduced and a Public session regarding the Ordinance is announced.  In addition, there is an opportunity for the Public to speak during the Public Session of the meeting where questions can be asked and/or complaints, comments, and suggestions can be made. There is a 5-minute time period for each member of the public.  The Mayor can extend the period for a member of the public to speak. Anyone can speak at the meeting.  There is no residency requirement to speak.
