Gotham FC and Chicago Red Stars: A Clash of Conference Competitors

Gotham FC, who play their home matches at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, NJ, have been climbing the NWSL rankings this season and are currently positioned in the top tier of the table. Their home stadium holds approximately 25,000 fans and is known for its passionate local supporter base and proximity to New York City.

The Chicago Red Stars, founded in 2007, play their home matches at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois. SeatGeek Stadium has a capacity of about 20,000 and has hosted a variety of professional soccer events since its opening in 2006.

Historically, matches between Gotham FC and the Chicago Red Stars have been closely contested. While Chicago held the upper hand in earlier seasons, Gotham FC has gained momentum in recent years. The two sides have met multiple times in the NWSL regular season and playoffs, and while the all-time series is competitive, Gotham FC now edges ahead in recent wins and goal differentials. Fans can expect a highly charged match with playoff implications on the line.

Community Impact and Local Logistics

As with all major events at Sports Illustrated Stadium, the Harrison Police Department is expected to issue a Traffic and Parking Bulletin in advance of Sunday’s game. The bulletin typically includes street closures in the Southern Harrison (SOHA) District and may temporarily suspend metered parking in key areas. Residents living near the stadium will be provided escorted access to their homes, whether in apartment buildings or private houses, by designated police personnel.

Residents and attendees are encouraged to plan ahead, use public transportation when possible, and allow extra time for arrival to participate in Fan Fest activities before kickoff.

The “Not All Heroes Wear Capes” match reflects more than just NWSL competition—it’s a celebration of those who serve our communities every day. With a blend of exciting soccer action, community recognition, charitable giving, and fan engagement, Sunday’s match between Gotham FC and the Chicago Red Stars is set to be a memorable highlight of the 2025 NWSL season.
